|
Do you know someone who loves to sing and wants to sing with the best? Auditions are being held in May and June for the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus. All interested children are welcome. The Chorus has ensembles for kids from kindergarten through high school, and easy ensemble placements are just to determine which group works best for a particular child. Call the office at 630-858-2471 to schedule an appointment.

GECC member 1986-ish-1993. I graduated from Glenbard East High School, and went on to attend Northern Illinois University to study Music Education. I only stayed for one year before I made a crazy decision to pursue a life with horses!!!!
So, you could say I have a very non-traditional, but fun job!! I spend my days caring for horses, teaching riding lessons, and riding/training competition horses. Most of the horses I ride belong to other people and compete in various levels of “eventing” (3 phases consisting of dressage, show jumping and cross country). I do own 4 horses myself, 2 of which are competing, and 2 who are my older, retired horses and my “friends.” I have been back and forth between Central Illinois, and Virginia for the last 10 years. Currently I live in Staunton, VA…..and plan to stay for a while! I picked Virginia because there is a large concentration of top level event riders that live here, so I am able to train with, and compete with these Olympic level competitors on a fairly regular basis. It has been a great experience just to get to know these people, and learn from them. I am very lucky to have such wonderful opportunities right in my backyard!! I must give credit to the GECC for teaching me that commitment and hard work will be rewarded, and for my ongoing appreciation and love for music. Along with my crazy, very full schedule at the barn, I am able to put aside one evening to sing in the Staunton Choral Society, a small choir of mostly “older” singers. We sing 4 concerts a year, and I have to say, each season, I think we’re getting better! It’s been quite an adjustment to come from suburban Chicago to a small town, where supporting the arts is the last thing on anyone’s mind. It makes me appreciate all of the wonderful experiences I had while in GECC, and the Chicago area. No other “Staunton resident” could say they have toured, and sang at Carnegie Hall, Ravinia, Grant Park, Orchestra Hall, Norway, Denmark…..the list goes on….I’ll never forget the experiences, the friends and the music! Thanks for everything!! To all the current GECC-sters: Enjoy, and Have Fun!!! P.S. if anyone would like to e-mail me to re-connect, I’d love to hear from you! dappirhorse@yahoo.com

Saturday’s culminating concert with the Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago rocked the house with incredible energy and fabulous singing from all our ensembles! Our young artists should feel great pride in all they have accomplished and the joy they brought to our audience. Our guest artists were so complimentary – their first time hearing the GECC – and enjoyed bringing their fever-pitched African drumming and dancing to our community. And there’s more. The summer is upon us, with our performance with the Grant Park Symphony at Millennium Park on June 20th, Concert Chorus leaving for the Crescent City Music Festival in New Orleans on June 21st, and Touring Chorus’ much anticipated tour to South Africa July 14 – 27. This 42nd season has flown by – filled to the brim with an amazing array of concerts, collaborations, outreach efforts, exchanges with other choirs, and travel. And as the summer begins, “the beat goes on…”
