Alumni News-Ashley Damron
After leaving GECC, I moved to Pennsylvania to study at Villanova University. During my time there I sang in both a cappella and chamber choirs and also performed in several musicals. I graduated in 2004 with a degree in Political Science and Chinese, and then went on to complete my Master's in Security Policy Studies, focusing on Asian Studies and Conflict Resolution, at George Washington University in Washington DC. I recently accepted a job at the Pentagon working for the Air Force and am looking forward to seeing where my career will take me next! I am considering pursuing a PhD in the future but am going to take a break and work for a couple of years first. I miss performing very much and am planning to audition for several choirs in the area. As for other interests, I ran in the Marine Corps marathon this past fall and am now training for a couple of triathlons this summer-- just to keep me busy! I love going to performances in the city, but I miss being able to see the GECC. The experiences I had during my 10 years with the choir are something I carry with me always, and my thanks goes out to everyone who was a part of that. Best of luck to all my old friends-- you are in my thoughts!
Emily's Notes

It's hard to believe that this season, our 41st, is coming to a close.  Saturday, May 20th is our spring gala, Crossings, at 7 pm., Edman Chapel in Wheaton - the final chance this year to hear all of our performing groups on stage - and what fun it will be!  We're joined by our guest artists The Lakeside Singers - a hot and innovative professional group of adults from Evanston whose repertoire moves effortlessly from Renaissance to rock n'roll!  We'll all be rockin' together, across a wide range of styles and generations in a concert that no supporter of the GECC will want to miss...

And, although the main season may be ending, activities continue for members of both Concert and Touring Choruses as we gear up for summer concertizing:  the national convention of the American Guild of Organists on July 5 (where we'll appear with an adult choir from Minnesota in a major work by American Frank Ferko as well as do some singing on our own) and performances on July 19 and 22 of Carmina Burana at beautiful Millennium Park with the Grant Park Symphony and Chorus!  We'll also host our own summer programs:  MEC classes for incoming K-2nd graders and our Week Alive! Summer camp for incoming 3-6th graders at College of DuPage. As exciting as all of this is, my own thoughts are more and more on the planning for next season - exploring yet new horizons for our 42nd season.  It promises to be full of world music, percussion ensembles, an American songbook, and wonderful collaborations with great musicians near and far...Stay tuned!
